much safer (although more expensive) alternative; organic

Over the last two years I have tried to shift my refrigerator contents away from the chemically enhanced, genetically modified foods to a much safer (although more expensive) alternative; organic. Food is something so fundamental to our quality of life and our overall health I cannot think of a more vital variable when it comes to everyday living. Organic food is much healthier than genetically modified food and I remember reading a study about GM potatoes and its negative effects on rats.

Lots of these products have only been tested up to 20 years and none have been tested for long term effects over 60 years because none of them have been out for even close to that long. That should be a real caution sign to everyone. The prices of the organic foods have also

been decreasing over the last year as the trend has started to really gain enthusiasm. More and more companies are entering the organic market driving the products into a very affordable price range. Organic fields are so much better for the environment as well which is a great advantage for the environmentalist and anyone with children or pets.

I have even looked into making my own dog food for my poodle with the same food I eat at home, although it proved far too time consuming I would recommend it for the health reasons. If budget is a concern but you are trying more and more to switch to organic foods I would recommend a small summertime garden if you have space. You could start off by growing a very limited number of vegetables/fruits and possibly develop a love and expand over the years. There is nothing like some freshly picked fruit/vegetables anyway! They also add to the overall appearance of your home and make sure your getting some sun light now and then and some good exercise. You could have some of your friends and neighbors plan with you what crop you will each grow and you could share so you could have more product selection with far less effort. Get your community closer together with a shared garden.

Sure it might sound a little bit cheesy but I have one behind my apartment building and it really works! Make sure that if you are planting anything that is really low on the ground you should put up a small fence to ensure protection from raccoons, squirrels and birds. I hope everyone encourages their friends and families to eat, drink and live organic.
